Rotary assisting Philippines in crisis
Lifestraw is a portable filtering appliance which will filter out impurities from contaminated water. It filters out bacteria, viruses and protozoa making contaminated water safe to drink. It does not require reticulated water and does not require any power source.
Grahame Orpin, a member of the Rotary Club of Buderim travelled to the Philippines with World Outreach International Aid taking with him our precious cargo, ensuring that donations were placed in the hands of those in need in the devastated area.
“Personal LifeStraws were given to 700 families; 120 LifeStraw Communities are now on their way to the Philippines. The distribution of community filters will provide over 100,000 litres of filtered water from each device. This will assist with the prevention of dysentery problems due to the polluted water seen in most towns and villages” Grahame said
Distribution of LifeStraws will make a huge difference not only to the affected community but to the local authorities, freeing valuable manpower caught up in the logistics of transporting the liquid gold to people in need.
The partnership between the Rotary Club of Buderim, CleanWater Australia and New Zealand, and Global Aid and World Outreach International (including water aid through LifeStraw products) allows donations to be fully tax deductable.
Please donate online by accessing www.buderimrotary.org. Safe, potable drinking water is essential to the wellbeing of us all; lack of access to safe drinking water contributes to the staggering burden of water borne diseases and deaths worldwide.
The big challenge now is to raise additional funds to replenish supplies to be ready for the next natural disaster.
LifeStraw Australia will match all donations to the Rotary Club of Buderim; therefore, you will effectively donate two lifesaving straws for the price of one.
All LifeStraws donated will be distributed by Rotary to where they are needed
